Private House 2 North Co. Dublin
The aim of this project was to restore this derelict vernacular outbuilding to create 2 individual dwelling units. Although not a protected structure, this vernacular outbuilding was considered to have many outstanding vernacular characteristics and the design was subject to the approval of the conservation officer. Contemporary links between the vernacular outbuilding and the modern cube style extensions created a more functional floor plan to accommodate the family’s requirements. The link also provided a contrast between old and new. Care was taken during the construction process especially when reinstating the mud walls and the roof of the vernacular outbuilding. This project was completed in 2011.
